Disney Lorcana

Disney characters, properly designed, and young enough that the chase cards still surprise people.

Disney Lorcana arrived in August 2023 and immediately became the most approachable game in the hobby. Ravensburger — a board game company, not a card company — built something with clean rules, real strategic depth, and art that people frame. Three years in, it has its own competitive season, its own championships held at Disney resorts, and a chase card that still makes people gasp when it’s pulled.

It’s also the game we’d point a parent toward first, and the one where we expect to teach the most first-time players.

What Lorcana is

You’re an Illumineer, and your cards are glimmers — versions of Disney characters drawn from the great Illuminary. You play them with ink, the game’s resource, and send them on quests to gather lore. First to twenty lore wins. Characters can also challenge each other, and the tension between questing for lore and challenging to slow your opponent down is the whole game.

Decks are sixty cards in up to two of the six inks, each with its own style — Amber heals and supports, Ruby hits hard, Sapphire ramps, and so on. Because it’s a race to twenty rather than a fight to zero, games feel different from Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh!: less about destroying and more about outpacing.

How the community plays it

Lorcana’s community is the friendliest in the hobby, and that’s by design. Lorcana League is the weekly in-store program — casual, drop in any week, promo cards for showing up — and it draws people who have never played a trading card game before. Set release weekends and pre-release events are family occasions.

The competitive side has grown fast. The Disney Lorcana Challenge runs from Local Qualifiers up through Challenge Championship Qualifiers to continental Championships — the 2026 North American Championship was held at the Disneyland Hotel. The 2026–27 season, Season of Villainy, introduced a Youth Division and expanded prizing. It is possible to play Lorcana casually forever, or to chase a Disneyland invitation, and the same shop serves both.

The state of play in 2026

Ravensburger holds to a set every three to four months. Attack of the Vine! landed July 24, and Hyperia City releases October 23 with pre-release the weekend before. No rotation yet, so every card since The First Chapter remains legal in Core Constructed.

The Season of Villainy’s fall qualifiers are running now — the White Rabbit CCQ on September 19 and RareHunter CCQ October 3–4 are the nearest on the calendar. Both are on the events board.

Collecting-wise, the story is Enchanted cards: full-art alternates pulled at very low rates that carry most of a box’s value. The First Chapter and Rise of the Floodborn Enchanteds have held up best. Later sets have more supply and softer prices, and we’ll be straightforward about that.

What we stock, and what we buy

Recent Lorcana sets have traded 40–50% over MSRP, which is unusual for a three-year-old game and worth knowing before you open a box. Enchanteds carry most of a box’s value; we price them against recent sales, not asking prices.

Sealed. Booster boxes and starter decks from current and recent sets, plus Illumineer’s Trove and gift sets where we can get them. Older sealed from the first two sets when it comes across the counter.

Singles. Enchanteds, legendary rares and playable singles for the current meta, sorted by ink.

What we buy: Enchanted cards first. Sealed from any set, priced honestly by set. Singles and collections. Ravensburger is one of only two publishers that grants retailers written permission to use its brand materials, and we take that seriously — everything here is presented properly. Send a photo if you’d like a read before coming in.

Where to play this season

Tuesday is Lorcana night in Miami. League at the shop starts with opening, with a Youth Division if the numbers support it — join the opening list and pick Lorcana. Qualifiers are on the events board.

Questions

Lorcana, asked and answered

Do you buy Disney Lorcana cards in Miami?

Yes. Enchanted cards, sealed boxes and singles. Lorcana sealed from the first two sets has held up well; later sets are softer, and we'll tell you which is which.

What are Enchanted cards in Lorcana?

The top rarity — full-art, foil-patterned alternate versions of cards from the set, pulled at very low rates. They're the chase in every Lorcana set and where most of a box's value concentrates.

Is Lorcana good for kids?

It's the most family-friendly game we carry. The rules are clean, the art is Disney, and organized play has a Youth Division. It's the game we'd point a parent toward first.

When is the next Lorcana set?

Hyperia City releases October 23, 2026, with pre-release events the weekend of October 16.
