Gundam has been one of the most durable franchises on earth since 1979 — the anime, the model kits, the entire idea of a “real robot” — and until 2025 it didn’t have a trading card game of its own. Now it does, from Bandai, and it launched into a market that had been waiting for it.
It’s the newest line on our shelves and the one where early positions matter most. Bandai allocates months ahead; a shop that wasn’t in early stays behind.
What the Gundam Card Game is
You deploy units — mobile suits — and link pilots to them. A unit with the right pilot gains stats and abilities, so deckbuilding is about pairs, not just cards. Command cards are your spells; a base card anchors your side of the field. Attacks go at your opponent’s shields — six cards set aside at the start — and then at their base. Break through and you win.
Resources come from a separate resource deck, so you never draw a dead land. Four colours, each tied to a faction and a feel: Federation, Zeon, and the rest. It plays cleanly, and the pilot-unit link makes it feel like the series in a way a generic engine wouldn’t.
How the community plays it
Organized play runs through Bandai TCG+. Store Tournaments are seasonal — Season 3 ran July through September, Season 4 closes the year. The World Championships 26-27 Regionals run in two seasons; Season 2 covers August to December with North American stops in Toronto (September 5), Milwaukee (October 4) and Washington, DC (October 31). Next year’s Worlds splits into two halves to fit more players in.
Because the franchise is older than most of its players’ parents, the community is broad: model-kit builders who wanted a reason to sit at a table, anime fans, and card players who came for the engine. Release events for new boosters draw all three.
The state of play in 2026
Bandai has been shipping monthly. GD05: Freedom Ascension landed July 25. The ST13 Silent Barrage and ST14 Heavy Dominion starter decks released September 25, and GD06: Stardust Trails arrives October 23. Every set has sold through quickly; supply is still catching up.
The full release and event calendar is on the events board.
What we stock, and what we buy
Current Gundam boxes trade roughly two-thirds over MSRP, and Bandai allocates six months ahead. Early positions matter more here than on any other line; we’ll tell you plainly what’s coming and what isn’t.
Sealed. Booster boxes and starter decks as we get them — Bandai allocation is tight, and we’ll be honest about what’s available and when.
Singles. Alternate-art units and pilots, and playable singles by colour.
What we buy: sealed and alternate arts first. Collections. Send a photo and we’ll tell you what it’s trading at.
Where to play this season
Monday is Gundam night in Miami. Store tournaments at the shop run through Bandai TCG+ as the line requires — join the opening list and pick Gundam. Regional dates are on the events board.
